The Great Dane Difference at Doggett Freightliner

Vernon Gene's Doggett Company building

Doggett Freightliner is a successful family-owned full-service truck and trailer group based in Houston, Texas. In 2018, the company wanted to expand and offer a one-stop experience for their customers, so they acquired a Great Dane dealership serving the El Paso, Laredo, and McAllen/Pharr areas.

We recently spent some time with Bob Logan, Trailer Sales Manager for Doggett Freightliner, and learned how their partnership with Great Dane benefits their customers.

Finding The Right Solution, Not The Expected One

Great Dane: What is it about Doggett that makes you different? What makes you stand out to your customers?

Bob Logan: Probably one of the biggest things is that we work with our truck salespeople to sell trailers to the same customer.

One example that stands out is a 50-trailer deal we worked on alongside one of our truck salespeople. The customer needed trailers with very specific cargo-securing requirements for transporting freight, and they needed them quickly. We were up against several competitors in this situation, as well.

After learning more about the freight and the customer’s budget, we identified a more practical approach. Instead of sourcing a hard-to-find trailer configuration, we modified a Great Dane trailer with custom e-track installation that met the customer’s needs and could be delivered much faster. Our product knowledge and relationships with the manufacturing plant, along with having available inventory, meant we were able to provide a solution that saved the customer money and kept to their timeline.

The truck salesperson finished the order and helped deliver the trailers, but we supplied the knowledge about Great Dane trailers so they could close the sale.

A Name Customers Know and Trust

Great Dane: What is it about Great Dane trailers that keep your customers coming back?

Bob Logan: Well, Great Dane’s got a name that precedes itself. You know, it’s the prestige. I mean, there’s not a customer down here in South Texas that doesn’t know Great Dane. They see the trailers, and they may not currently be a Great Dane customer, but they know that brand, and they have confidence in it.

Great Dane: When you look at where Doggett is today, what are you most proud of?

Bob Logan: We have customers that are repeat customers, coming back to us now that the trucking economy is improving. As you know, everyone went through a real tough time for the past three years. And as it’s starting to come back, those same customers are coming back to us talking about renewing their fleet.

Great Dane: Speaking of fleets looking at renewing their fleets, what are you excited about?

Bob Logan: We’re really excited about your new Ultra flatbeds. We ordered three with the armor rail and we ordered three with the regular spool rail. We’ll have some in stock soon.

A Partnership Ready For The Future

Great Dane: As your company gears up for 10 years as a Great Dane dealer, where do you see Doggett heading in the future?

Bob Logan: Wherever Great Dane grows, Doggett grows. And hopefully in the future, you guys will offer more products. We’re looking forward to being involved in those as well.
