For nearly four decades, Atlantic Great Dane has been a full-service Great Dane dealer. Headquartered in South Portland, Maine, the dealership has grown over the years, helping customers by providing dry and refrigerated trailers and truck bodies they can count on. 

Gene Masteller started his career at Atlantic Great Dane more than 36 years ago as a shop hand, serving as a “go-between runner” that earned him the nickname Skippy. Through the years, he worked in several areas throughout the dealership with increasing responsibility. Today, he serves as president and owner of the company. His sons Justin and Tylor joined him several years ago as proud Atlantic Great Dane team members.

We spent some time with Gene and learned how the dealership grew from one small sales office to serving loyal customers nationwide.

“I think one of the main reasons we’ve been successful is the complete transparency we provide to our customers during the trailer build process,” said Gene Masteller, President of Atlantic Great Dane. “We send weekly updates so they can anticipate when to turn in rentals, resulting in cost savings to their operations.” 

Gene says most of their customers are in the multi-temp food service industry and providing refrigerated trailers and truck bodes tailored to a customers’ specific needs builds relationships.  

“Building trailers to meet their specific operations, including providing equipment that’s safe for their drivers to use, is important. They can go out in the nighttime knowing they have their proper lighting or steps to get in and out of the trailer safely. Catering to our customer’s needs by supporting their drivers is where we really thrive,” he explained.
