(Savannah, Georgia – Oct. 17, 2016) – Great Dane will showcase two refrigerated truck bodies at the 2016 International Foodservice Distributors Association (IFDA) Distribution Solutions Conference in Tampa, Florida, October 17-19.
The truck body models on display are engineered to address increasing food safety regulatory changes with a focus on thermal efficiency and long-term durability. Great Dane’s refrigerated truck bodies incorporate industry-leading refrigerated trailer and truck body technology from Great Dane and Johnson Truck Bodies to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of temperature-sensitive products.
The Blizzard Refrigerated Truck Body
Great Dane’s Blizzard fiberglass composite truck body provides a durable and reliable solution for a wide sector of applications, including last-mile deliveries. The high-pressure foam insulation system produces panels with the highest thermal performance rating in the industry. The result is a significant reduction in energy use to keep products at required temperatures. The Blizzard is an innovative, lightweight truck body that delivers maximum payload and operational savings.
The Blizzard’s smooth, white fiberglass interior and exterior surfaces are corrosion-free and exceptionally durable. The walls and ceilings are lined with .090” fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP). Every seam is glassed and sealed by experienced technicians to lock out moisture. The framework for wall and roof panels is made of welded steel that is completely covered in foam insulation and fiberglass. The fiberglass exterior blocks heat from penetrating the truck body because it does not conduct heat and there are no seams or rivets for heat or moisture to pass through.
Compared to competitive designs, the Blizzard requires 26 percent less energy for temperature control thanks to its superior thermal performance. The Blizzard’s high thermal efficiency creates the ideal conditions for Johnson All-Electric (AE) Cold Plate refrigeration systems. The AE Series includes traditional, free-hanging cold plates and cold plate blower systems with automatic defrost that deliver excellent reliability, low maintenance and exceptionally long system life. The AE Series serves a wide variety of markets and satisfies a vast number of temperature-controlled applications and delivery requirements.
The Guardian Reach-In
Great Dane’s Guardian Reach-In refrigerated truck body strikes the perfect balance between light weight and maximum thermal efficiency. It is designed using the latest in fiberglass composite construction, which provides great flexibility for transporting food with different temperature requirements.
The Guardian can be designed with multi-temp zones (deep frozen, medium, and dry freight goods) in a single vehicle from under 10,000 gross vehicle weight (GVW) to 26,000 GVW. The Guardian’s construction and durability allows fleet owners to decrease their total cost of ownership by moving the same truck body to multiple chassis, which reduces the cost associated with replacing the entire unit.
Designed with ergonomics in mind, the low ground-to-floor height also helps reduce injuries. The Guardian is available with a number of refrigerated systems, including traditional diesel, engine driven, or Johnson AE Cold Plate systems, which are exempt from CARB/ARB regulation in California.
