Great Dane Announces 2016 Scholarship Winners

(Savannah, Georgia – August 2, 2016) – Great Dane recently named four children of Great Dane employees winners of its 2016 college scholarships. The scholarships recognize Blake TomanConnor CrossAllyson House and Alyssa Yocom for their outstanding academic achievements. The four were selected from a large number of nationwide applicants.

Great Dane annually awards one four-year scholarship of $1,000 per year and three two-year scholarships of $1,000 per year. Children of Great Dane employees nationwide are eligible. Scholarship winners are selected from graduating high school seniors based on several categories, including grade point average (GPA), Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Testing Program (ACT) scores, honors received, extracurricular activities, community service and work experience.

ABOUT THE WINNERS:

Blake Toman, son of Jeff Toman, corporate controller at Great Dane’s Chicago corporate office, won the four-year scholarship valued at $4,000. He graduated from Academy of Higher Learning Homeschool where he was a member of the debate, golf and varsity soccer teams. He also served as president of the 4-H Club and hosted a student exchange program. Blake plans to attend Patrick Henry College in Purcellville, Virginia, where he will major in economics and business analytics.

Connor Cross, son of David Cross, PC technician I at the Great Dane Wayne plant, was awarded a two-year scholarship valued at $2,000. He graduated from Laurel-Conford-Coleridge High School where he was a member of the choir, track and field team, student council and National Honor Society. He also served as president of the science club and treasurer of the Future Business Leaders of America. Connor plans to attend the University of Nebraska Omaha where he will major in electrical engineering.

Allyson House, daughter of Timothy House, CATIA engineer II at the Great Dane Brazil plant, was awarded a two-year scholarship valued at $2,000. She graduated from Terre Haute South Vigo High School where she was a member of the key club, student senate and National Honor Society. She also served as a peer educator and yearbook captain. Allyson plans to attend Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Alyssa Yocom, daughter of Steven Yocom, product engineering manager at the Great Dane Brazil plant, was awarded a two-year scholarship valued at $2,000. She graduated from Clay City High School where she was captain of the softball and basketball teams and a member of the varsity volleyball team. She was also a recipient of the Scholar Athlete Award. Alyssa plans to attend Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana, where she will major in athletic training.
